Prophet Muhammad, upon him peace and blessings, called Muharram “the Month of Allah” which points to its sacredness and nobility.
When people hurt you, God uses these trials to push you to Him. People usually run to more powerful people for help and victory. However, if the person harming you is the most powerful or influential in the town that is hurting you and no one from the people will respond to his oppression and push him/her back within their boundaries, then who does this person go to?
We shouldn’t shame or blame people who commit suicide. But neither should we normalize suicide. That door needs to be shut.
And so they were: the enemy behind, the Red Sea in front.
The first lesson in fighting abusive power is what not to do, and we should never assume we’re immune from becoming an abuser.
