Hi Nahid! I stumbled upon your article and I find it really interesting, congratulations.

On my site I wrote about the history of this symbol and its usage by Turkic peoples. It might be interesting for you (it's in Spanish, though)

This article has many missing points, for example it says star is adopted in the era of Turkey but in Ottoman empire there was. And also there was a flag with there crescents on a dark green bacground.

A very interesting article indeed, thank you Nahid.

However, the history of a symbol, no matter how eclectic its use may have been, does not necessarily tell us how that symbol is used today. Just as words change their meaning over time, so does symbolism. If this were not the case then there could be no objection today to the use of the four hammered swastika, which has a similar history to the crescent, in those parts of the world where it is now associated with Nazism. It must be remembered that even the most revered, and originally good symbolism can take on quite a different character to that with which it was originally endowed. Even the bronze serpent, which Moses made and represented salvation for the Hebrews in the wilderness, later became an idol several hundred years later and so had to be destroyed.

The crescent then has become a symbol for Islam, no amount of pleading to history can get away from that. Therefore its position at the beginning of Coexist, and juxtaposition with the cross at the end says a lot about how Islam views itself and the glorious cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, where he gave his life for sinners to reconcile us to God.

That the star of David should take centre stage however is of some comfort, for the Lord Jesus Christ sits upon the throne of David reigning (and to him as king and lord, of course, every knee shall bow) until he comes again when he shall judge the world in righteousness and deliver his kingdom up to God the Father.

The Lord be with you
